Thanks and here’s what we mean about low traffic keywords. Most people’s first thought for SEO is to rank for a main term like “gift card”. If you used a keyword research tool, you might see it gets a hypothetical 20,000 searches per month in the USA. You would then start building content and trying to gain back links to rank your web page for the term “gift card”. The only downfall to this is that unless you already have a relatively strong and authoritative domain name, it will be extremely hard to rank for that keyword anytime soon. The low traffic keywords we were referring to above are a work around to get traffic from your niche keywords. So instead of “gift card”, you might be looking at terms like a number of keyword phrases like “buy local restaurant gift cards”, “Tampa, FL gas gift card”, “best gift cards to buy”, and so on. Performing keyword research might could give you anywhere from a handful to hundreds of “long tail” low-traffic keywords to optimize for. You would still perform many of the same outreach and promotional strategies as you would for a high traffic keyword, but you’ll see results faster because there is usually less competition for these low traffic keywords. When you start ranking high for 10’s or 100’s of these low traffic keywords that get perhaps hundreds of searches per month individually, they make up for the difference by bringing more traffic in total. We like to think of it as fishing with a net instead of a spear.
